New Britain Bees News Release
(New Britain, CT) - The Atlantic League's Road Warriors (1-11, 18-57) defeated the New Britain Bees (5-6, 38-36) 2-0 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday night to even up the three-game weekend series at a victory apiece. The win snaps a 12-game losing streak for the Road Warriors.
New Britain starting pitcher Kyle Simon (6-5) suffered the complete-game loss after allowing just two runs (one earned run) on seven hits in nine innings of work, walking one and striking out three as the right-hander went the distance in a ballgame for the second time in 2108, tops on the team. Road Warriors starting pitcher Michael Lee (2-5) picked up the victory as he fired seven scoreless innings on six hits surrendered, walking three and striking out six. Andrew Johnston closed things out in the bottom half of the ninth inning for his eighth save of the campaign.
The Road Warriors took an immediate 1-0 lead versus Simon just four batters into the contest when cleanup hitter Jose Julio-Ruiz plated Anthony Ray with an RBI single after Ray opened up the ballgame with a walk. The visitors took a 2-0 advantage in the top of the third by way of a Jorge Fernandez sacrifice fly that scored Ray as the speedy leadoff batter set the table once again with a double to begin the frame. The two-run advantage was all that Lee would need as he finished off his evening on the bump retiring 13 of the final 17 batters he faced. Offensively Vince Conde and Jonathan Galvez each had a base knock in the losing effort to extend their hitting streaks to five consecutive games overall, the longest active hit streak on the ballclub. Deibinson Romero led the way for New Britain with a pair of hits in defeat. Photo provided courtesy of the New Britain Bees.
The Bees conclude their three-game weekend series against the Atlantic League's Road Warriors at New Britain Stadium on Sunday, July 22nd. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 P.M.
