Camden Riversharks News Release

Camden, NJ - The Camden Riversharks will host their 12th annual open tryout session at Campbell's Field on Saturday, April 7 at 9 a.m. for players 18 and older.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and there is a $50 fee for all participants. Players are required to bring their own equipment including: wooden bats, gloves, footwear and catching gear. A T-shirt will be provided for all who tryout.

Representatives from the Riversharks and other Atlantic League officials will be present to scout and evaluate all prospects. Pitchers and field position players are welcome to tryout; however, collegiate athletes will not be allowed to participate, as doing so can compromise their NCAA eligibility.

"Open tryouts give players an opportunity to come to the ballpark and show off their skills," said Manager Jeff Scott. "We've had success in the past and we hope to have that again this weekend."

In the past three years, four players have been signed from open tryouts. Most notably, Dewon Brazelton, a first round selection of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2001, made the Riversharks opening day roster after attending the open tryout. In 2009, he appeared in the Riversharks starting rotation, earning a 3.69 ERA with a 6-8 record.

The Riversharks open their 12th season Thursday, April 26, on the road against the Bridgeport Bluefish. The team will play their home opener at Campbell's Field on Wednesday, May 9 at 7:05 p.m. against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Individual and group tickets can be purchased online at www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
