Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN, N.J. - The Camden Riversharks have signed righthanded pitchers T.J. Hose and Andrew Johnston and outfielders Yasser Gomez and Jorge Cortes for the 2014 season. The Riversharks now have nine players under contract.
Johnston, 29, returns for his second season in the Atlantic League, both with the Riversharks. The 6'5" righthander posted a 3-1 record in 36 appearances, all but one of which came in relief. He recorded a 4.98 ERA with 32 strikeouts. Prior to his time in the Atlantic League, Johnston made his way through the Colorado Rockies minor league system, reaching AAA in both 2010 and 2011.
Gomez, a 33-year-old outfielder, will also be making his second stint in Camden. He starred in his native Cuba before bringing his talents to the Atlantic League, batting .278 in 116 games with Camden. Gomez also stole 16 bases a season ago.
Hose, 27, split last season between the St. Paul Saints and the Long Island Ducks. He pitched to a 4.89 ERA, and his 44 appearances were a career high. His signing with Camden marks his third Atlantic League team, as he spent 2012 in Somerset.
Cortes spent 2013 with the Somerset Patriots. The 15-year professional baseball veteran batted .283 last year in his Atlantic League debut. The 33-year-old also spent time in the Mexican League, as well as the Pirates, Cubs, and Astros minor-league systems.
The Riversharks home opener is on May 2nd, 2014 at 7:05. Ticket information is available on http://www.riversharks.com/ www.riversharks.com .
