
Riversharks Announce First Two Player Signings

CAMDEN, N.J. - The Camden Riversharks have signed their first two players of the 2014 season. Outfielder Billy Rice and righthanded pitcher Wes Torrez mark the first members of the roster for the upcoming year.
Rice, 25, will return to Camden for a third season. The outfielder batted .269 in 318 plate appearances with the Riversharks last year. In 2012, he was signed by the Chicago White Sox after playing 17 games in Camden. Before playing in the Atlantic League, Rice spent two seasons in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system. The lefthanded Sewell product and Washington Township graduate begins his fifth season of professional baseball.
Torrez, 22, spent time with the Windy City ThunderBolts last season. The six-foot-five righty posted a 2.25 ERA and a 9.0 K/9 ratio. His father, Mike Torrez, pitched 17 major-league seasons and was a part of the 1977 New York Yankees World Series team. The elder Torrez also spent time with Riversharks manager Ron Karkovice with the Newark Bears, both as a pitching coach and as a general manager.

"Billy is a local player who has played well for us in the past, so it is great to have him back.
