ERIE, PA - (12/23/08) On Sunday, members of the Erie RiverRats professional indoor football team were the guests of the Veteran's of the Vietnam War and Veterans Welcome Association Post 52 as both groups participated in passing out Christmas presents to disabled veterans who reside at the Soldiers and Sailors home in Erie.

Every year, Post 52 out of Meadville buys presents and wraps them for Vietnam War veterans at the home and visits just before Christmas with food and drinks. The Post also sends packages out monthly to soldiers who are serving overseas. This year the Post was joined by Erie RiverRats players Robert Hammer and Manny Johnson, as well as head coach Steven G. Folmar. There members were introduced to real "riverrats", a term given to pt-boat soldiers in Vietnam. Members of both groups served food for the veterans and mingled throughout the day. "This is the best day of the year for me. To come up here and see how much these guys really appreciate the presents they get. There is nothing else I can say. That makes it all worthwhile. And I also know, that could be me", said Phil Davis, Vice Commander of the Veterans Welcome Home Association and a Vietnam War veteran himself.

"It's important that we give back to these veterans who have given us the opportunity to enjoy the freedoms we have today" said RiverRats head coach Steven G. Folmar, "being a veteran myself and having many veterans in my family, it's an honor for myself and the RiverRats to be a part of this." If you are interested in volunteering to assist your local Vietnam Veterans Post, contact Post 52 at (814) 336-4654 or e-mail at Post52@zoominternet.net.

The AIFA season begins its third season of operations in March with 16 teams from coast to coast and two additional franchises (Richmond, VA and Trenton, NJ) scheduled for the 2010 season.
