Erie Explosion News Release
Belle Vernon, PA - The Pittsburgh RiverRats of the American Indoor Football Association announced today, that they have extended the contract of Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Shawn Liotta through the 2008 season.
"I am very pleased with the direction of our football team under Coach Liotta's leadership. Clearly, we have improved dramatically over the course of the season. Some teams don't recover from the 0-3 start we had, but we're now in playoff contention, which is a result of our players buying into the great coaching they've been receiving. Just as importantly, Coach Liotta has brought quality people into our program that our fans in the Mon Valley can look up to and be proud of. We are very fortunate that Shawn chose to stay and help us continue our development for next season" stated Pittsburgh RiverRats President and CEO, Jeff Hauser.
Liotta, 27, was clearly excited about the contract extension: "I would like to thank our franchise owners, Jeff Hauser and Andrew Haines, for giving me this great opportunity to build and lead the Pittsburgh RiverRats. Our guys have bought into our program, we're really starting to play well now, and I feel good about our chances coming down the stretch towards the playoffs. I'm a Pittsburgh guy and I want to build my career here. The fit with the RiverRats is perfect for me, and I'm looking forward to what we can build together in the future."
The RiverRats are coming off their most significant win in their brief franchise history, beating the defending league champion Canton Legends 62-33, on April 28. Pittsburgh has won 4 in a row at home and 5 of their last 7 overall. The RiverRats will travel east to take on the first-place Reading Express on Sunday, May 6. Pittsburgh's next home game at the Ice Garden Arena will be on Saturday May 19, when they host the Erie Freeze with kickoff scheduled for 7:05.
