Erie Explosion News Release
ERIE, PA - (9/20/08) This past couple weeks members of the Erie Riverrats of the American Indoor Football Association have been active in the community including the Celebrity Pro Party 2008 with celebrity sports artist Kevin-John, working with veterans of the POW-MIA organization and playing softball with the Pennsylvania Department of Enviromental Protection.
On Sunday, September 14, members of the Erie Riverrats including standout out players Sam Reynolds and Darmel Whitfield, Riverrats general manager Jeff Moran and head coach Steven G. Folmar, all attended the Celebrity Pro Party 2008, which was held at the Brewerie at Union Station in Erie. Events included food, the Steelers vs. Browns game and a celebrity auction which benefited the "Show Them We Care" Foundation, a children's organization started by former Pittsburgh Steeler defensive back Willie Williams.
This past Friday, Rats head coach Steven G. Folmar played softball with employees of the Pennsylvania Department of Enviromental Protection to benefit his own non-profit organization, the "Let Em Play" Foundation. Players were asked to bring new or slightly used sporting items to be donated to the Meadville YMCA's youth sports with over $200 in items being donated.
This past Saturday, Folmar assisted with the annual POW-MIA Day vigil and bike rally held to remember soldiers of foreign wars who remain unaccounted for, which was held in Meadville, Pennsylvania. "Being a veteran myself, I think it is very important that we support our troops and make sure that all are accounted for correctly and not taken for granted by those who may forget why we have our freedoms," said Folmar.
