Erie Explosion News Release
ERIE, PA - (10/20/08) With many American Indoor Football Association teams already having tryouts, the Erie Riverrats wanted to make prospective players aware of the Riverrats' plans for tryouts for their 2009 team. With the season not expected to begin until March 2009, the Riverrats plan on hosting tryouts after the finish of most of the local college football seasons in early 2009. The Rats wanted prospective players to be aware of the tryout schedule so players don't get worried they may have missed their chance to become a Riverrat and so prospective players don't get too hasty in signing with other clubs.
Erie Riverrats head coach Steven G. Folmar explained the team's reason for pushing the tryouts back, "I know many teams are already having tryouts right now but we want the opportunity to see the best talent available, and our staff believes that to do that, we need to have the largest pool of talent possible to choose from. Because of that, we decided we needed to allow guys playing college football right now the opportunity to finish their seasons and heal up minor aches and pains before we see them and we go about finalizing our roster." The Riverrats expect to have tryouts in Buffalo, NY, Cleveland, OH, as well as in the Erie area. The Rats hope to finalize and make announcement of the actual dates of their upcoming tryouts within the next few weeks. Check back to our webpage for staff and player signings to begin soon as well!
