RiverKings in the Mid-South Update

(Southaven, MS) --- Once again, the RiverKings will be out in the Mid-South, backing community efforts to make the area a better place to live. Here's a capsule look at where you may see the RiverKings in the near future.

Thursday, August 20th, RiverKings player Derek Landmesser and mascot Sheldon the Turtle will be on hand at the DeSoto Alternative Center and Magnolia School. They will be assisting the RiverKings with a Cause organization in dropping off school supplies for students at the school, located at 6870 East Center in Horn Lake. Landmesser and Sheldon will be on hand at 11:30 AM that morning.

On Thursday, August 27th, Landmesser will be among several Northwest Mississippians recognized for their community involvement at a reception to be held at the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi. During the gathering, Landmesser, along with the other volunteer honorees, will receive a citation signed by President Barack Obama for community work and volunteer service to the area. The reception ceremony will take place at 5:30 PM in the courtyard behind the Foundation headquarters at 321 Losher Street in Hernando.

You can also look for the RiverKings to have a presence in other upcoming activities, such as the North Mississippi Down Syndrome Awareness picnic, set for Saturday, September 12th. The picnic takes place at the Goodman Oaks Church of Christ at 1700 Goodman Road East in Southaven from 11 AM to 1 PM. You'll find mascot Sheldon the Turtle on hand from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

Another opportunity to catch Sheldon the Turtle will be the same day at the TCU Reunion at the LeBonheur Children's Medical Center, 50 North Dunlap Street, in Memphis. Sheldon will be on hand for an hour during the afternoon of the event, which is scheduled to run from 11 AM to 4 PM.

Future events for members of the RiverKings include the Sacred Heart Fall Golf Classic at The Club at North Creek on Friday, September 25th, "Play Day in the Park," at Conger Park in Hernando, on Saturday, September 26th, a benefit golf tournament, also on the 26th at the Plantation Golf Course in Olive Branch for youth hockey coach Marc Floresca, and the 21st annual St. Peter Villa - Hollywood Casino Gala and Golf Tournament, presented by Hollywood Casino and EMHC. That event will be held September 27th and 28th at the Hollywood Casino River Bend Links in Robinsonville.
