After a constant back and forth battle, the Crew struck first as midfielder Ricardo Virtuoso set up defender Ivan Becerra in the 41st minute to give Columbus the 1-0 lead late in the first half. The Riverhounds fought hard to tie up the score before the half launching several offensive attacks. However, with forward David Flavius, who led several of the attacks for the Hounds®, leaving in the 45th minute due to injury, Pittsburgh was unable to even up the score before halftime
Heading into the second half, down a goal, the Riverhounds picked up their intensity, making several runs on the Crew goal.
