Rockford RiverHawks News Release
LOVES PARK, Ill. - Area high school baseball teams will have the chance to play on the same field as the professionals do next year, while raising needed funds for their programs.
The Rockford RiverHawks announced Thursday they are once again scheduling dates for high school teams to play at their ballpark.
The first date is a doubleheader between Ashton-Franklin Center and South Beloit scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5. Belvidere and Harlem have also scheduled games. There are still several dates available for all area high school teams.
"We are giving back to the community and the players are giving back to their school and program," general manager Brad Sholes said. "To date, the RiverHawks have helped area high schools raise more than $35,000. We are very pleased with the efforts of the kids involved in this program."
Each school's baseball team raises money to cover costs by selling tickets to a RiverHawks game and pocketing 50 percent of the face value of the ticket. In many cases, the result is a surplus for those teams to invest in gear or improvements at their campus field.
"This is yet another example of the RiverHawks commitment to youth baseball in the Stateline," director of operations Chris Daleo said. "Not only do the kids get to play on a professional field, but they also have the opportunity to do significant fundraising in the process."
Coaches interested in scheduling a game should contact Daleo at (815) 885-2255.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league that will play its 20th season in 2012. Advertising and season ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
