Rockford RiverHawks News Release

JOLIET, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks withstood a late Joliet rally on Thursday for a skid-snapping 8-7 win at Silver Cross Field.

Brett Durand went seven innings for the win and stopped the RiverHawks' season-worst four-game losing streak. Durand (3-0) scattered four hits and left with an 8-1 lead.

Rockford never trailed. The RiverHawks scored twice in the second inning when Kevin House singled in a run and two Joliet errors on the play brought home the trailing runner. In the fourth inning, the RiverHawks scored three two-out runs on a two-run single by Jason James and a RBI single to left by Patrick O'Sullivan. The RiverHawks drove Joliet starter Todd Privett (1-1) from the mound with three more runs in the fifth inning.

Joliet rallied against the Rockford bullpen for four runs in the eighth inning and two in the ninth. Rockford closer Scott Roehl gave up three hits in the ninth, including a two-out Rafael Mendez RBI single that put the tying run on base, but escaped with his fifth save.

The RiverHawks are home at 7:05 p.m. Friday for a game against Fargo-Moorhead. The Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest, a traveling baseball carnival, is open 4-7 p.m. in the Road Ranger Stadium parking lot and is free with paid admission to the game.
