JackHammers Rally Falls Short in 8-7 Loss

JOLIET, IL - The Rockford RiverHawks played spoiler Thursday night as they were able to salvage game four of the series against the Joliet JackHammers 8-7.
Rockford jumped out to an 8-0 early thanks to consecutive three run innings in the fourth and fifth frames. Rockford's starting pitcher, Brett Durand (3-0), threw seven shutout innings and stifled the red hot JackHammer offense as he allowed just one run on four hits. After he left the game, however, the JackHammer bats came alive scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
The JackHammer bullpen held Rockford to just one run in four and two thirds innings pitched allowing Joliet the chance to make an improbable comeback in the bottom of the ninth. The RiverHawks brought on closer Scott Roehl to close the door with a three run lead. The JackHammers would get two runs in their part of the ninth inning before Freddie Thon came to the plate as the go-ahead run. Scott Roehl would get the best of Thon on this occasion as the JackHammer cleanup hitter popped out to left fielder Kevin House to end the comeback and the game.
The JackHammers were led on the night by Kevin Rios, who finished the night 2-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Five other JackHammer players had at least one run batted in. For the RiverHawks, they were led by Evan McArthur who was 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. The real story of the night was Brett Durand, who was completely unhittable for Rockford, tossing seven innings of one run ball.

- Jon Nelson had his streak of consecutive games with a home run end at three Thursday night
- JackHammers finish their first home stand with a record of 5-2 and now hit the road for a three game set with the Kansas City T-Bones
