The Augusta RiverHawks Hockey Club has announced that goaltender Peter Skoggard has re-signed for the 2011-12 season.

"Peter stepped in last year during some very important games for us and played exceptionally well," said RiverHawks Head Coach Brad Ralph. "He has great foot work and plays a sound positional game. We are looking for Peter to establish himself as an elite goalie at this level."

Skoggard, 23, joined the RiverHawks during the second half of their inaugural season and played in seven games. During that time he achieved a perfect record of 7-0, and played a large role in the RiverHawks' two long winning streaks during the second half of the season.

During the playoffs Skoggard shared the net with Jon Olthuis. He made three appearances but only getting a decision in two, winning one and losing one. He had a save percentage of .919 and a goals against average of 3.29.

The native of Lulea, Sweden posted the Southern Professional Hockey League's second best save percentage, stopping 92.4% of the shots fired his direction. He also had the league's third-best goals against average, only allowing 2.54 goals per 60 minutes of playing time.

Prior to joining the RiverHawks the 6-1, 190-pound Skoggard spent time in both the East Coast Hockey League and the Federal Hockey League, before finding his home in Augusta.

The RiverHawks open the Southern Professional Hockey League's season with a home game against the Mississippi Surge in a rematch of the 2010-11 President's Cup Final. The game will be played at the James Brown Arena on Thursday, October 20th at 7:30pm.
