JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Johnstown Riverhawks of the American Indoor Football Association want to extend their condolences to the Daytona Beach Thunder, a member of the Inaugural World Indoor Football League, Head Coach Leon Bright and particularly the family of Thunder defensive back Javon Camon. Camon died tragically while making a helmet on helmet tackle during Monday's football game against the Columbus Lions. It was Javon's first game with the Thunder. "It doesn't matter what league you are in. We are playing the greatest game on Earth and we are all part of the same fraternity. No one, anywhere in football, ever wants to see things like this happen." Said Riverhawks Head Coach Steven G. Folmar.

Unfortunately, Folmar can relate to how Coach Bright and his staff might be feeling. As an assistant with the Bakersfield Blitz of the arena football league 2 in 2003, he watched his starting Fullback/ Linebacker, Julian Yearwood die after blocking a kick in a game versus the Wichita Stealth. Yearwood died of cardiac arrest due to plaque built up in his arteries. "As a coach, you kind of steel yourself to ending a young man's dreams once in a while. It is a stark reality of our business. Whether due to talent level or injury, you have to be prepared for when those days come, when you have to tell someone he can't play football anymore.. But I don't think you ever are prepared for anything like this. My heart just sank when I heard about it because I know what it feels like to lose a player. It's just not a good feeling at all." A memorial service for Camon will be held in Ormond Beach, Florida on Thursday.
