Riverhawks Name Chuck Gironda Defensive Coordinator

December 21, 2004 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Johnstown RiverHawks News Release

The Johnstown Riverhawks of the Atlantic Indoor Football League have named Chuck Gironda as defensive coordinator for the team's and league's inaugural season in 2005.

Currently the head coach at Central Cambria (PA) High School, Gironda has been in coaching for 38 years, beginning with a seven-year stint as head coach at Northern Bedford (PA) High School. He later served six years at Central Cambria, then served 17 years as a part-time coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania before returning to Central Cambria this season.

This is Gironda's first professional coaching position, but it allows him to reunite with Riverhawks head coach Brian Basile, who also spent time at Central Cambria (1981-85) as an assistant varsity coach and played at defensive back at IUP from 1978-80. He also reunites with Tom Fleming, who joined the Riverhawks as offensive coordinator last month.

In fact, Gironda was instrumental in having Central Cambria hire Basile in 1981.

The Atlantic Indoor Football League is the hottest new professional football league and will kickoff its inaugural season April 1, 2005.
