RiverHawks Lose to Ice Bears 5-1
December 29, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release
The Augusta RiverHawks continue to be befuddled by the Knoxville Ice Bears, falling to the Ice Bears 5-1 Thursday night in Tennessee. The loss is the RiverHawks' third loss in a row and fourth loss this season to the Ice Bears in four games.
Southern Professional Hockey League leading scorer Kevin Swider was the star of the night for either team, scoring two goals in the game. His line-mate Emery Olauson had a great night as well, scoring a goal and adding two helpers.
The power play was the story for the Ice Bears, as they converted on three of their six opportunities with the man advantage. The two teams entered the game at opposite ends of the special teams spectrum, as the Ice Bears owned one of the league's least effective power plays, while the RiverHawks are one of the league's best at killing off penalties.
The lone goal scorer on the evening was forward Neil Graham. He took a set up from Branden Kosolofsky and defenseman Curtis Megginson and scored his sixth goals of the season since returning to Augusta.
RiverHawks' netminder Peter Skoggard dropped his second start in as many games. The two losses are his first two during his SPHL regular season career. The RiverHawks were without forward Aaron McGill who was suspended for the game by the SPHL for events stemming from an event the last time these two teams me.
The victory gives the Ice Bears sole possession of first place in the SPHL, sliding ahead of the RiverHawks by just a point. The Ice Bears also have a game in-hand on the RiverHawks in the race for top spot in the SPHL.
The RiverHawks are back in action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Friday, December 30th as they play the Fayetteville FireAntz. The puck drops at 7:35pm. Tickets for the game are available through the RiverHawks' office and the James Brown Arena box office. Additional information on the Team, tickets, and schedule are available on the RiverHawks' home on the web, www.augustariverhawks.com or by calling 706-993-2645.
