RiverHawks Defeat Windy City in Season Opener

CRESTWOOD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks opened up their 2004 schedule with a 4-0 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts.

Rockford's Rico Santana led off the game with a bunt single then stole second base. Santana reached third on a Brett Stephens wild pitch. Rich Austin then singled in Santana giving them the lead that they would never surrender.

Santana, 2003 batting champ in the Southeastern League, finished the game 3-4 with two singles, a double, two runs scored and a RBI. Santana reached base all four at bats and finished with two stolen bases.

Justin Dowdy picked up the win for the RiverHawks going seven innings giving up only one hit, striking out four and not issuing a walk.

Stephens picked up the loss for Windy City going six innings giving up three runs, two of the runs being earned.

The RiverHawks play game two of a three game series at 7:05 tomorrow at the Windy City Thunderbolts. Scheduled starters for the game are Justin Olson for Rockford and Aaron Bolton for Windy City.

The ‘Hawks open their home schedule at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 25 against the Springfield/Ozark Ducks at Marinelli Field. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 12th season.
