Rockford RiverHawks News Release
Chillicothe, OH-The RiverHawks have had highs and lows this season, but the lowest point of the season came as Rockford lost both games of the doubleheader with Chillicothe. The RiverHawks now have lost eight straight ball games, and finished their Eastern road trip without a win. The losses have moved the RiverHawks all the way down to fourth in the Western Division, with a record of 32-32. Rockford has made player moves to try and stop the bleeding, and many more are expected to come when the âHawks resume play on Thursday.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Rockford RiverHawks carried a 4-2 lead going into the sixth inning, but Chillicothe tied the game in their half of the sixth. Rockford couldn't score with the bases loaded in their half of the seventh, and then relief pitcher Marc Dulkowski loaded the bases in the bottom of the same inning. This set the stage for Darren Kinsolving's game winning grand slam with two out, giving the Paints the 8-4 win. Dulkowski earns the loss for Rockford, and moves to 0-2 on the season. Rockford stranded eleven base runners in the game, including leaving the bases loaded in the fourth and seventh innings.
Game two didn't start off too promising for the RiverHawks, as starter Mark Skrukrud retired the first seven batters he faced, and pitched a three-hit shutout for his third win of the season. He got plenty of backup from the offense, as Mickey Hernandez hit a three-run home run in a six run first inning for the Paints. Chillicothe would add runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth, en route to a 10-0 victory. Travis Hubble got the start for Rockford, and only lasted one-third of an inning, and picks up the loss, to move his record to 0-1.
Rockford returns home for a seven game homestand, as they host the Eastern Division teams they will be playing on the road this weekend, plus a make-up game against the River City Rascals. On Thursday, August 7, the âHawks host the Evansville Otters at Marinelli Field. It's 98 cent beer night, courtesy of Miller Lite and Q98.5. Then, on Friday, August 8th, Rockford Peaches bobble head dolls will be given away, and that's brought to you by LaSalle Bank, Continental Coupons, and Oldies 96.7 WKMQ, both games starting at 7:05. There are fourteen chances left this season to go see your RiverHawks at Marinelli Field, so call for tickets now, at 964-BALL.
