Johnstown RiverHawks News Release

The Johnstown Riverhawks are pleased to announce the arrival of their new mascot. The mascot, a blue and black War Hawk, flew in last night at 8:00 p.m. and was very eager to get started. "Ever since I got word that we were playing Erie in our first game," he said, "I went through three veterinary treatments because I kept losing my feathers!"

Flying in from "Parts-Unknown," the mascot indicated that while the weather was wonderful over the Greater Johnstown Area, he wasn't as happy with the flight over Johnstown rival Erie. "Yeah, we really must put Erie out of their misery...that place is a real mess."

"The mascot is an integral part of our team," said Brian Schwelling owner of the Riverhawks, "but ever since we began discussing his role with the team he kept asking me if he was allowed to dine on opposing players." "I think we will have our hands full."

The mascot is missing just one important thing...a name. Therefore the Riverhawks will sponsor a name the mascot contest beginning immediately. Contestants may submit their entries to jwaugh@johnstownriverhawks,com or send to Johnstown Riverhawks Mascot, 326 Napoleon St. Johnstown, PA 15901. Entries must be postmarked by March 29th. On April 1st, the top four submissions will be selected and placed on the Riverhawks web site for a vote. The winner will receive two tickets to the Riverhawks home opener and be invited on the field for the naming ceremony.

The Johnstown Riverhawks are the newest premier indoor football team and member of the Atlantic Indoor Football League. Contact Brian Schwelling at (814) 361-3460.
