Columbus Riverdragons News Release
COLUMBUS, Ga., (Dec.12) - The Columbus Riverdragons (4-5) face the Mobile Revelers (4-4) Friday, December 13 at the Columbus Civic Center at 7 p.m. Following Friday's game, the Riverdragons will be on the road until Sunday, December 22, returning to host the defending NBDL Champion Greenville Groove. That in mind, the Riverdragons have packed Friday's game against Mobile with several activities and promotions to give fans memorable experiences designed to get them through the week-long home game drought.
FT. BENNING IN THE HOUSE: The Riverdragons are expecting over 1,500 soldiers from Ft. Benning to attend Friday's game. Colonel Baldy will present the game ball in a pre-game ceremony. During a full timeout, Riverdragons mascot Rivvy D, dressed as the popular Rivvy Claus, will deliver a large bag of holiday gifts to Captain Ed Smith of First Battalion, 29th Infantry. Captain Smith will distribute the presents to the families of his battalion.
MILITARY SPRINT-ING TO FREE PHONES: Sprint PCS Wireless will offer military personnel in attendance a free phone call from cell phones located on the concourse level of the Civic Center. The opportunity should be especially gratifying for soldiers in training who are away from family and loved ones during the holiday season.
YEAR OF THE UNIFORM TIPS-OFF: Friday is the Riverdragons first Year of the Uniform night, as the first 2,000 fans 12 & under will receive a Riverdragons sports water bottle. During the Riverdragons Year of the Uniform, fans 12 & under will have the opportunity to build their own Columbus Riverdragons uniform by attending eight pre-selected games throughout the 2002-03 season. Other uniform give-away items and dates include: NBDL socks (Dec.24); NBDL headband (Jan. 10); Riverdragons cap (Jan. 17); Riverdragons shorts (Mar. 1); Riverdragons gym bag (Mar. 7); Riverdragons/NBDL mini-ball (Mar. 14); and Riverdragons jersey (Mar.22).
Go Get Some Popcorn, It's Movie Night: The first 2,000 fans will receive a Lord of the Rings poster at Friday's game. Fans will also have the opportunity to win Lord of the Rings T-shirts, action figures, video games and VHS tapes via contests during timeouts and quarter breaks. The Lord of the Rings promotion is the third of four movie nights the Riverdragons are holding this season. The fourth and final movie give-away will be Sunday, December 29 to promote the release of the popular film Like Mike on DVD.
Riverdragons Jonesin' for Live Tunes: New Orleans free-form jazz band Kelly Love Jones will perform a post-game concert at the Civic Center immediately following the game Friday night. Following the show at the Civic Center, fans can catch more of Kelly Love Jones at Ritmo Latino Restaurant (3665 Victory Drive). Fans presenting a Riverdragons ticket stub from Friday's game at the door will get $2 off the cover charge as well as a complimentary drink and buffet. Kelly Love Jones keyboardist Emanuel Burke will also perform the National Anthem prior to tip-off at the Civic Center.
Rivvy D Special: As always, the Riverdragons offer the Rivvy D Special, a $5 kids (12 & under) ticket, good for all seats at the Civic Center. The Rivvy D Special allows children 12 & under to sit in Lower Bowl A ($16 per ticket) and Lower Bowl B ($12 per ticket) for just $5. The Rivvy D Special is available for all 25 of the Riverdragons home games during the 2002-03 season. To take advantage of the Rivvy D Special, call 1-800-4NBA-TIX or visit columbusriverdragons.com.
