FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Columbus Riverdragons snuck past the Patriots in double overtime, 119-117, on Sunday afternoon at the Crown Coliseum led by Reed Rawlings with 20 points and a last second tap in by Mike Benton to seal the victory.

In what looked like it was going to be a blow out, the Riverdragons grabbed a 23-point lead in the third quarter. Behind a 12-0 run, with 10 of the 12 points coming from Tang Hamilton, the Patriots mounted an exciting comeback and cut the lead to six with 2"29 to go in the third. Omar Cook hit a three-pointer with 51 seconds to go then stole the ball on the other end of the floor to give it back to the Patriots.

Hamilton tied the game with a free throw at 100 with 26 seconds left in regulation. Fayetteville had a chance to win it, but Cook missed a three. The game went back and forth in the first overtime. Jon Smith tied the game at 108 with 15 seconds to go on a dunk. On a miss by David Young, the game went to double overtime.

In the second overtime Young scored the first five points for Fayetteville. Ronald Curry hit a key three pointer with 50 seconds to go, and gave Columbus a 117-115 lead. Young tied it at 117 with 25.2 seconds remaining. Columbus got the ball at their end of the court after a timeout, and in a controversial call, Mike Benton tapped in the shot to win the game 119-117.

The Patriots were led by David Young with a game-high 34 points. Tang Hamilton came off the bench to score 24 and grab eight rebounds. Jon Smith had 17 points. Omar Cook had the games only double-double with 15 points and 14 assists.
