CHARLESTON, S.C. - While some school-age children dread their summer reading assignments, several more embrace it to enjoy their expanding horizons and become wrapped up in a world outside their own.

On Sunday, August 14, the Charleston RiverDogs will recognize those young scholars during the club's inaugural Celebrating Reading Day.

Boys and girls that have read for five or more hours through the RiverDogs' and Charleston County Libraries' summer reading program, will receive a free ticket to the 5:05 pm Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission's Family Sunday game against the Hickory Crawdads.

Each library branch will also draw one winner and that youngster will have the opportunity to take the field with the Yankees of tomorrow prior to the National Anthem and the game's ceremonial first pitch.

"The RiverDogs are proud to embrace in another fashion our Lowcountry youth that have dedicated themselves to staying sharp during the summer months," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols. "Our Reading and Running program has been a big success, and this event helps build on that momentum."

For more information or to order tickets to any RiverDogs game, please call the Riley Park Box Office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or log on to www.riverdogs.com.
