TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The fourth of 17 meetings and the second of eight here. âDogs are 1-2 vs. the Jackals, 0-1 at home. Ryan Prentice has four points vs. the Jackals. Greg Koehler has seven vs. the âDogs. Elmira is 6-21 (28.6%) on the power play vs. Richmond. The âDogs are fourth in the Eastern Division, two points back of third place Danbury. The âDogs have at least two games in hand on the rest of the division. Elmira is first in the East, one point up on Adirondack.
LAST ACTION: Richmond lost 8-4 to Adirondack here last night. The Frostbite snapped a 2-2 tie with a five goal second period explosion. Justin Kelly had a hat trick for the Frostbite. Ryan Bennett had two goals, five points, and a fight. David Hymovitz scored twice for the âDogs. Elmira edged Danbury 3-2 in a shootout at Danbury last night. The Jackals twice rallied to tie the game. Nathan Gillies forced the shootout with a third period goal and scored in the shootout. Elmira out-shot Danbury 40-35.
'DOG BITES: Richmond's second three game winning streak of the year ended last night. Mark Turner has points in five straight games. David Hymovitz has points in four straight. Jonathan Gagnon's three game scoring streak ended last night. Ryan McIntosh four game winning streak ended last night. The 'Dogs are 1-1 in a stretch of nine straight games vs. Eastern Division opponents. The 'Dogs are 3-1-1 in one goal games. The 'Dogs have been held to under 30 shots on goal in five straight games. They had 30 or more in seven of their first eight games. Richmond had held opponents to just eight goals over four games prior to allowing eight last night. The eight goals allowed last night equals a franchise record. The âDogs finish a four game homestand tonight (they are 2-1). The âDogs are tied for second in the league with four shorthanded goals. Rookie Joe Lovell joined the âDogs last night. The âDogs are three for their last four on the power play.
JACKALS NOTES: The Jackals Greg Koehler leads the UHL in points and goals. Trevor Burgess is in a three way tie for the league lead in assists. The Jackals have three of the league's top 16 scorers: Koehler, Jason Sessa, and Jamie Thompson. The Jackals are third in the league in scoring. They are fifth in shots on goal and third in the UHL on the power play.
NEXT UP: Richmond hits the road for a three game road trip next week. The âDogs visit Adirondack next Wednesday (6:50 air time on 1480, 990, and 1340). Richmond returns home next Sunday to face Elmira at 5:05. It is a Family 4Pak night.
