RiverCity Rage Wins Big in Season Opener

SAGINAW, MICHIGAN: The RiverCity Rage Professional Indoor Football Team's season kicked off with a strong 55-41 win on the road against the Saginaw Sting. RiverCity is now 1-0 on the season and scored more points in their week one win than they did in any contest last season. The most the Rage scored in a game in all of 2008 was just 42 points. With the loss, Saginaw falls to 1-1 on the season.

The Rage were led on offense by quarterback Dixie Wooten, who threw for six touchdown passes in the game. He hit four different wide receivers for touchdowns, including two a piece by Tyrone Timmons and Luke McCardle. Wooten added touchdown passes to Hurtis Chinn and Maurice Avery and the Rage got a 25-yard touchdown run from Vincent Webb to top off an impressive offensive evening.

The Rage defense got interceptions from Byron Jones and Daryon Brutley, who returned his for a touchdown in the third quarter. Xzavie Jackson recorded two sacks in the first quarter before missing the second half with an injury to his right knee. Kicker Will Rodriguez was strong in the kicking game, knocking seven of his eight extra point attempts through the uprights.

The win marked the first in the RiverCity career for head coach Rik Richards, who marked his team debut with an impressive win on the road. The Rage were playing their second game in five days, after winning an exhibition game on Monday, March 16th in St. Charles.

The Rage hit the road again in week two to battle the Maryland Maniacs on Sunday, March 29th. Game time is set for 5:30pm. Their first game at home will be held on Saturday, April 4th at 7:30pm when they try to make it two in a row against the Saginaw Sting.
