RiverCity Conducts Final Open Tryout
February 7, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
RiverCity Rage News Release
GLEN CARBON, ILLINOIS: The RiverCity Rage, a member of the Indoor Football League (IFL), conducted a successful open player tryout on Saturday, February 7th, at "The Game Arena" in Glen Carbon, Illinois. The event was the second and final tryout held in the area to find potential players for the 2009 season.
Over forty local players attended the tryout, conducted by new RiverCity head coach Rik Richards and his staff. The players were put through a number of position specific football drills during the three-hour tryout. In addition, the players were timed in the 40-yard dash, and tested in vertical jumping ability and various agility drills.
"We were very impressed with the entire process," said Richards. "There is a great deal of talent in the area and we feel like with the players we have already signed we are putting together a fantastic roster."
RiverCity and a number of other teams within the IFL have been able to sign a number of talented players from the Arena Football League, which has suspended operations for the 2009 season. Currently, none of the players from the Arena Football League are able to sign with Arena Football League 2 (af2) teams, leaving the IFL as the best indoor football option for players. Tyrone Timmons, a talented wide receiver from the Arena Football League, has already signed with the Rage. Timmons was the Tampa Bay Storm rookie of the year in 2008, scoring 13 touchdowns.
The Rage has already made a splash by signing seven standouts from the University of Missouri, including safety Cornelius "Pig" Brown. This off season, the organization has signed players that combined for 17 All-Conference selections, one Conference Offensive Player of the Year award, one Conference Defensive Player of the Year award, four All-American selections, and five players that have either played in the NFL or have been in a NFL training camp.
"We have a quality staff of coaches and the talent level of the players is top-notch," said RiverCity President Art Clarkson. "I am really excited for this upcoming season and as I have said before, I feel we will not just win, we will dominate."
RiverCity will open its season with a home exhibition game against the Gateway Soul on Monday, March 16 at 7:30 p.m. and is proud to present "Full it Up Night" at the Family Arena, where all tickets for the game will be just $7.50. The Rage will open the regular season on the road on Saturday, March 21 against Saginaw and will return to St. Charles for their home opener in Week Three against the same Saginaw team on Saturday, April 4. A complete schedule is available online at www.ragefootball.com. Individual game tickets will go on sale on Monday, February 2.
