Greeneville Astros News Release
GREENEVILLE, TN - In what turned out to be a high scoring game, Greeneville Astros third baseman Darwin Rivera propelled his team to a 10-8 win over the East-leading Bluefield Blue Jays, and tied the series at one game apiece. Greeneville's 10 runs tied for the club's third most all season.
Rivera connected on a two-run homer to left center field to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning, but his biggest hit came later. Tied at 8-8 in the eighth inning, Rivera doubled on a line drive to right field, allowing pinch runner Jose Monzon to come around from second base for the go-ahead score. Rivera finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Jordan Scott also had another good night for the Astros. He was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI. His batting average has now climbed to .344, and his 78 hits are the second most in the Appalachian League this season.
After Rivera's go-ahead double, the Astros picked up one more run on Josh Magee's line drive single to center field. Then, the Astros turned to left-hander Paris Shewey to close the game. He picked up two strikeouts in the final inning and earned his third save of the season.
The Astros face the Bluefield Blue Jays in the rubber match on Wednesday at 7:00pm. The Astros will have a mystery autograph baseball giveaway as fans enter the gates at 6pm. For tickets or more information on the Greeneville Astros, call (423) 638-0411 or visit www.greenevilleastros.com.
