Cedar Rapids River Raiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, IA (November 14, 2003) Cedar Rapids River Raiders will be making an appearance this weekend on Saturday November 15th at the Square in Marion, IA at the 11th Annual Turkey Trot 8K run 4K walk. River Raiders Staff will be located at the finish line handing out water to the participants as they cross the finish line. Proceeds from the Turkey Trot will benefit the programs of Alternative services, a not for profit human services agency that helps teens and families break the cycle of poverty, crime and welfare through a mix of programs designated to promote emotional and financial self-sufficiency.

Alternative Services is a multi-dimensional human service agency serving high-risk youth and their families in counties throughout central and eastern Iowa. Alternative Services was founded in 1979 as a supervised independent living program, providing structure, support, and counseling to older teens living on their own. In 1980 it opened its first group home for troubled boys. Since that time the agency has expanded its scope to encompass a continuum of services that include: an independent living program; group homes; day-treatment programs; and family centered services such as skill building, supervision, therapy, foster care, and employment programs to help prepare young people for work.

The River Raiders will start its inaugural 30 game regular season (15 home games) in April of 2004 at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids. The River Raiders are an expansion franchise of the 19 year old USBL. Season tickets are on sale now! For more information call 319-373-2683 or visit our website at www.crriverraiders.com.
