River Raiders sign 6\'9" Forward Edmund Saunders

Cedar Rapids, IA (March 17, 2004) Today the Cedar Rapids River Raiders member of the USBL announce the signing of Edmund Saunders a 6'9" forward from the University of Connecticut ('01). The move is pending league approval. Edmund knows about teamwork and playing great basketball as he was a member of the 2000 NCAA National Championship team. He played three seasons at the University of Connecticut from 1998-2001. Over his career, Saunders appeared in 100 games, averaging seven points and five rebounds. Edmund has also played with the Asheville Altitude (NBDL), Europe (Finland), Mexico and with the St. Louis Skyhawks (USBL).

Edmund comes to the River Raiders after playing with the New Jersey Squires of the ABA where he averaged 25.6 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.2 bpg. In High School Edmund was one of the National Top 50 recruits during his scholastic playing days at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, CT. He was two-time First Team All-State pick and completed his high school career with 2,087 points and 1,085 rebounds. As a senior he averaged 29.9 points and 12.0 rebounds per game as Holy Cross posted a 21-2 recordand earned a state championship.

"We are happy that Edmund has chosen to come play with the River Raiders this season", Head Coach Dave Joerger said. "He will be a great addition to what we feel will be a very competitive team in the USBL".

The River Raiders will start its inaugural 30 game regular season (15 home games) on Friday April 16, 2004 at 7:15 vs. the Oklahoma Storm at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.
