Cedar Rapids River Kings News Release
The Cedar Rapids River Kings have signed former UNLV quarterback Kurt Palandech to its 2019 roster.
Palandech (6'2", 200) joins the River Kings for his rookie year of professional football. The former Rebel played in 24 games across three seasons as a dual-threat quarterback. He started in six games, three each in his junior and senior seasons, highlighted by a 69-66 win in triple overtime against Wyoming. In that game, Palandech completed 20 of 32 passes for a career high 252 yards and three touchdowns.
He also ran for a career-high 157 yards on 16 carries, including a 75-yard touchdown run. His effort in that game earned him Mountain West Player of Week, the first UNLV quarterback to earn the honor since 2013.
Across his three seasons playing for the Rebels, Palandech amassed 1,489 passing yards with 14 touchdowns, and ran for 728 yards with 9 additional scores. He averaged just under 100 passing yards per game (98.8 in 2015, 91.5 in 2016) as a sophomore and junior.
Prior to joining UNLV Palandech played one season of junior college football at Laney College in Oakland, California, leading the Eagles to a 6-5 record and an appearance in the Bulldog Bowl in 2014. He finished his season there with 1,634 passing yards and 17 touchdowns while rushing for 390 yards and five touchdowns.
He spent his redshirt freshman season at the University of North Dakota, before transferring to Laney. Palandech is a native of Plainfield, Illinois, earning All-Southwest Prairie All-Conference honors as a junior and senior while playing for Plainfield North.
