River Kings Sign Maurice Daniels

Linebacker Maurice Daniels has been signed to Cedar Rapids for the 2019 season.

Daniels comes to the River Kings after a team-leading effort his junior year at New Mexico. He led the team with 12.5 tackles for loss on the season, despite not starting in any games in 2015-16. He had a season high seven tackles in his first game against Mississippi Valley State along with a forced fumble. Daniels also totaled five sacks his junior year.

During his senior year as a Lobo he secured 31 total tackles, with 6.5 tackles for loss. He added four unassisted sacks that same year. He had a season high five tackles against Air Force, helping the Lobos to a 45-40 win.

The 6'3", 225 Lobo helped lead his team to two bowl games in his two years at New Mexico. Both times the Lobos appeared in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl, winning the 2016 contest 23-20 over UTSA. Daniels had three tackles and two assists in the game.

Prior to joining New Mexico, Daniels attended West Hills College in Coalinga, California. He led all California junior college players with 19.5 sacks, and also had 28.5 tackles for loss and forced five fumbles his sophomore season. His prolific season earned him scholarship offers from Arizona State, TCU, and his eventual college, New Mexico.

Daniels played high school football at Robeson High School in Chicago, Illinois, where he played tight end. He had eight touchdowns his senior season and averaged 20 yards per catch.
