The Cedar Rapids River Kings have added defensive lineman Derwyn Scales to its 2019 roster.

Scales (6'7", 270) wrapped up his collegiate career last month, playing for the Southeastern University Fire in Lakeland, Florida for the past three seasons.

Scales will make his rookie debut with the River Kings after a productive college career. He racked up a total of 54 tackles, including 7.5 tackles for loss with 2.5 sacks. He had a career-high 9 total tackles with one tackle for loss in a week two win against St. Andrews this past season.

He played in 22 games while at Southeastern including four starts for the Fire.

During his time at Southeastern the University had three of its most successful seasons, including two conference championships (2016, 2017) and two NAIA Football Championship Series appearances (2016, 2017, both first round losses). The team went a combined 22-8 over his three years there, going 8-2 in 2017 and 7-3 in both 2016 and 2018.
