Rising Plays to Third Consecutive Draw
March 30, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Phoenix Rising FC News Release
PHOENIX - Phoenix Rising briefly held on to a lead for the first time in 2019, but ultimately settled for a 2-2 draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in front of a sellout crowd of 6,466 fans. It was the club's fifth straight official sellout.
WHAT TO KNOW
Defender Joey Farrell scored his first goal of 2019 in his first start of the season.
Rising FC's streak of consecutive equalizers ends at seven.
The club is now unbeaten in March over two consecutive seasons.
Jahn scored his second goal of the season in the 86th minute to give the club a 2-1 lead; the club's first lead of 2019. After Junior Flemmings headed the ball to an oncoming Solomon Asante down the right side, Asante sent an arching pass into the center of the box where Jahn dove and headed the ball past the keeper to make it 2-1.
But Switchbacks FC equalized in the first minute of stoppage time. Following a foul to the right of the box, Colorado Springs' Ismalia Jome curled his free kick into the net to make it 2-2.
Rising fell behind in the 26th minute when Switchbacks FC's Jordan Burt took advantage of a fortuitous bounce in front of the goal and buried a rebound to make it 1-0. The match looked destined to go into the half 1-0, but in the 43rd minute, defender Joey Farrell got his head at the end of a corner kick and snuck a fade away header just under the crossbar to make it 1-1 just before the half.
The club returns to Casino Arizona Field next Saturday, April 6th, to take on Fresno FC. It's Kids Night and the first 400 kids 14-years old and under will get a free ticket courtesy of Spouts. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and fans can purchase tickets at PHXRisingFC.com
