New England Riptide News Release


A late in the game rally helped the New England Riptide to shut out the visiting Chinese National Team. The Riptide took the game 2-0.

The game started as a pitchers duel between Riptide pitcher Danielle Henderson and Team China pitcher Yu Huili that lasted through the third inning. The Riptide defense started off slow in the top of the fourth inning, allowing Team China their biggest scoring opportunity of the game. Lu Yi leadoff with a base hit putting a runner on for China. Wu Di was next to bat hitting back to Henderson in the circle, but an error on the throw by Henderson allowed both Yi and Di to reach safely. Zhang Ai hit to Destiny Frankenstein at short, but an error on the play by Frankenstein loaded the bases for China with no one out. The Riptide defense tightened up putting an end to a serious scoring threat from Team China. Henderson struck out Jiang Xin for out number one. Xin Minhong was entered to pinch hit for Ding Hong, Minhong hit back to Henderson in the circle who threw to KJ Kelley for the force out on Yi at home. Henderson struck out Yu Yanhong to end the inning.

Lindy Winkler finally put New England on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Lisa Iancin leadoff with a single, Jackie Pasquerella was next to the plate hitting to Team China third baseman Li Chunxia. Paquerella reached safely but Iancin was thrown out at second. Frankenstein hit to Chunxia, but an error on the play allowed her to reach safely putting two on for New England. A base hit by Kristin Vesely loaded the bases for the Riptide. Winkler was next to the plate sending the ball into right centerfield scoring both Pasquerella and Frankenstein giving the Riptide a 2-0 advantage. Kelley hit into a fielders choice that allowed Team China to turn an inning ending double play.

The Riptide defense held Team China scoreless through the seventh inning, taking the third game of the series 2-1. Henderson earned six strikeouts and recorded her fourth pitching win of the season.

The ‘Tide are back in action for the final game in the series of four with Team China tomorrow, Saturday July 22 at 7:05 pm.
