Rockford Thunder News Release

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - The visiting Akron Racers took a 2-1 series lead over the Thunder on Friday night by defeating Texas 3-1 at Big League Dreams in League City.

The game was played fairly even on the night, as Akron collected six hits in the game to the Thunders five. But it was some poor play by the Thunder on stolen base attempts by the Racers that helped to decide the game. The first major miscue came in the sixth inning when Adrian Gregory dropped a perfect throw from catcher Denise Dahlberg allowing pinch-runner Kim Gonzalez to advance to third. She would come in to score when the next batter, Amber Hall, hit a line drive to right field.

A similar play in the seventh inning helped Akron to score their third run in the game. After Iyhia McMichael singled, she stole second and moved to third on an errant throw by Dahlberg. She would come in to score on an RBI groundout by Kristen Butler.

McMichael, who is 6-for-9 in the three games thus far, was named the Domino's Pizza Player of the Game after going 2-for-4 in the game with a run scored and an RBI.

The Thunder did have plenty of chances to put some runs on the board in the game. The team left nine runners on base, including four in scoring position.

Kristen Zaleski was the only player for the Thunder to have a multi-hit night. She finished the game 2-for-4.

The loss dropped the hometown Thunder to 15-16 on the season and three games behind the Racers for the final playoff spot in the league with just 17 games remaining. Akron improved to 17-13 on the year with the victory.

The Thunder will return to action on Saturday night, July 21, for the final game of a four-game set with the Akron Racers. The Thunder will look to salvage a series split on Saturday night after dropping two of the first three games.

Team USA will then visit Texas for a four-game series beginning on Friday, July 28 and will through Sunday. Tickets are available by calling the Thunder office at (720) 318-1205.
