July 20, 2007 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) - New England Riptide News Release

Lowell, MA- The New England Riptide and Chinese National team resumed their series tonight at Martin Softball field after an unscheduled day off due to rain. The Riptide collected nine hits, four walks and seven stolen bases off of three Chinese pitchers to come away with a 6-4 victory. Jocelyn Forest picked up the win, her second of the year while Yin Zhou took the loss for China

The Riptide took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Lisa Iancin reached on an error by third baseman, Ying Tan with two outs. Iancin promptly stole second and came home on an Alex Sutton single (2 for 3, three RBIs). They stretched it to 4-0 in the third, again helped by the Chinese defense. Gina Carbonatto led of the inning getting hit by a pitch and Carri Martin singled. This time Zhou helped the Riptide cause by throwing Lyndsey Angus' come backer into right field to score Carbonatto. After a walk to Garland Cooper loaded the bases Tarrah Beyster delivered a long single off the wall in left to score two more runs.

China got two back in the fourth when Wu Di blasted a homerun over the center field fence to close the gap to 4-2. The Riptide got them back in the home fifth on singles by Cooper (1 for 1, 2 walks), Jess Merchant, Sutton and KJ Kelley. The Chinese continued to fight back and got two in their half of the sixth to knock out Forest. Forest was relieved by Eileen Canney with one out, 2 runs in and runners at 1st and 3rd. Canney got out of the jam and finished the seventh to pick up her first save of the year. Canney was helped by two outstanding plays by Merchant at short. Forest struck out seven in the first five innings before running out of gas in the sixth.

The teams play again on Saturday night at 7:05 and a make up game on Sunday at 1:05 at Martin Softball Field
