Glory Overtake Force by Power

July 20, 2007- Fairfax, Va. - The Philadelphia Force came out on the short end of a 5-2 verdict to the Washington Glory. The result slipped the Force under the .500 mark with a 13-14 record.

The Glory (24-7) used a two-run home run by Oli Keohohou, and a solo shot by Jessica Moore to jump out to a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. The homers helped make Desiree Serrano (14-3) a winner. She pitched six innings and the Force posted nine hits off of her.

The Force had started the scoring in the top of the third. Kellie Wilkerson drove in the first of her two RBIs of the contest.

In the sixth, the Glory added two insurance runs. Stephanie Best and Callie Piper earned RBIs to make the score 5-1 Glory.

In the seventh with Jen Musillo pitching, Wilkerson stroked her second single and second RBI of the game.

Stacy Birk (2-6) got the start for the Force and pitched 3 1/3 innings, and allowed three runs on five hits. Jodie Cox made her second appearance of the season and of the series. She pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up two hits and recording two strikeouts.

In the defeat, the Force offense produced 11 hits against the Glory pitchers. Along with Wilkerson's two hits, Sharonda McDonald was 3-for-4 with a run scored. She has now cracked the top-5 in NPF batting averages at .365. Rocky Spencer contributed two hits on the evening, and Emily Friedman had a base hit and a run scored. Jaime Dacey, Stacie Pestrak, and Chelsea Spencer (4th in NPF hitting at .380) each had one hit to complete the Force offensive stats.

The Force end their stay down south Saturday night as they meet the Glory for the last time in the regular season. The game to be played at the George Mason Softball Complex is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. After this series, the Force head to New England on Wednesday to start a critical four-game series with the Riptide.
