San Francisco Dragons News Release
San Francisco, CA - The San Francisco Dragons (1-3) made a strong comeback, down 7-3 after the 1st, to get it within one at half time and tied at 13 a piece in the fourth but couldn't take the game into overtime. The Los Angeles Riptide (3-2) got the win 14-13 as Wes Green scored his 5th goal of the game with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. Green was named the Player of the Game. The Dragons have yet to beat their California rivals, losing to them three times last season.
The Dragons got a much needed 2 pointer from Jarrett Park in the middle of the second quarter. The goal gave the team momentum and from there it was back and fourth. San Francisco took the lead for the first time 12-11 with 12:24 left in the fourth. Tempers flared toward the end of the game as the score was stuck on 13. Dragons' goalie Matt Vallone finished with 20 saves and had a strong game but fell short of the victory.
Matt Alrich started off on a roll for the home team, scoring two goals right away. Alrich finished with two goals, one assist, and three ground balls. Liam Banks and Ryan Powell also added two goals. The Dragons edged LA on ground balls 34 to 25.
Helping out his teammates, Spencer Ford had four assists for the Riptide. Two of those assists found Michael Watson, as Watson went on to finish with five goals. Sean Lindsey also added two goals and 1 assist.
The Dragons are still looking for that first home win as they take on the Denver Outlaws in San Francisco next Saturday at 1 pm. The Riptide, who lost to the Outlaws last week and Boston before that, end their 3-game road trip with a win. Heading home, LA will take on the Chicago Machine. The two California teams will meet again shortly in Los Angeles on June 30th as the Dragons will look to get revenge.
