
LA Riptide Earn Victory Over Conference Rival

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Saturday, June 16, 2007 - Bud Light MVP/attackman Wes Green (Adelphi '06) collected five goals, including the game-winner, and attackman Michael Watson (Virginia '97) also posted five goals for the Los Angeles Riptide as they fought to a thrilling 14-13 victory over the San Francisco Dragons in front of a crowd of 3,564 at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Riptide improved their season record to 3-2 and captured sole possession of second place in the Western Conference.

The Dragons struck first in the opening quarter and took an early 2-0 lead, but the Riptide quickly tied the game with goals from Green and midfielder Sean Lindsay (Syracuse '04). From there, the Riptide dominated the rest of the quarter as attackman Terry Riordan (Hopkins '95) collected one goal, Watson tallied two goals and Green and Lindsay each chipped in with their second goals of the contest to assemble a 7-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Watson collected the only two Riptide goals scored in the second quarter to allow the team to hold onto a 9-8 lead at halftime, despite a comeback effort of four goals and one two-point goal by the Dragons in the quarter. Riptide attackman/midfielder Spencer Ford (Towson '99) tallied his fourth assist of the game on Watson's first goal of the segment, a power play goal, at 4:18.
The Riptide and the Dragons each scored two goals in the third quarter. Green and Watson found the score sheet again in the third for the Riptide, as the Riptide held onto an 11-10 advantage after three quarters of action.
The two teams exchanged the lead several times during the final quarter of play. The Dragons began the scoring with a tally that tied the game just 27 seconds into the quarter and then took a 12-11 lead, their first of the game, at 2:36. The Riptide responded with Green's fourth goal of the game at 3:44 to tie the score at 12-12, but the Dragons quickly stole the lead again at 4:09. Attackman/midfielder Lorne Smith (Princeton '99) equalized the game with his power play tally at 5:54 and the score stayed deadlocked until Green put the Riptide ahead 14-13 with his fifth goal at 14:50, which proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Riptide goalie Mickey Jarboe (Navy '00) faced 29 shots on goal and made 17 saves to earn his third win of the season. Riptide face-off specialist Anthony Kelly (Ohio State '03) finished the game with 16 face-off wins (16-for-31).
The Riptide went 2-for-3 on the power play. The Dragons were 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
The Riptide's next game is set for Saturday, June 23 when they return home to face the Chicago Machine at The Home Depot Center, with the game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
