New York Riptide News Release
NEW YORK - The New York Riptide announced today that the team has signed Tyson Bomberry and Alex Woodall to contracts.
Per team policy, no terms were released. The contracts are pending league approval.
"I'm excited to welcome both of these guys to New York," Riptide Head Coach and General Manager Regy Thorpe said. "Tyson is a tough, fierce defenseman with great leadership ability. We were incredibly excited to get him at No. 10 in the draft. He has a high lacrosse IQ and I believe that the people of New York are going to love his toughness and grittiness. We feel that the faceoff position is important to our team in order to get extra possessions and to get Alex as a free agent was great. He has huge potential and upside and we're excited to see what he can do in camp."
Bomberry, selected 10th overall by the Riptide in the 2019 NLL Entry Draft on September 17, started all 14 games his senior season at Syracuse. He was a USILA Scholar All-American as a senior and was a two-time member of the ACC All-Academic team during his tenure with the Orange. A native of Ohsweken, Ontario, Bomberry is currently playing for the Iroquois Nationals at the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship and will be competing for a gold medal on Saturday evening. He won three Minto Cups with the Six Nations Arrows in Ontario Junior A and a Founders Cup.
In three seasons at Towson after transferring from High Point, Woodall became the program's all-time leader in faceoff wins during his senior season and wrapped up his career with 583. A member of the All-ECAC First Team and First Team All-CAA as a senior, Woodall was also named a USILA Second Team All-American following his final season with the Tigers.
