Game Preview: New York Riptide vs Albany Firewolves

April 19, 2024 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
New York Riptide News Release

Uniondale, NY - The New York Riptide will look to keep their playoff hopes alive as the team closes out the 2023-24 regular season on Long Island at the Nassau Coliseum against the Albany FireWolves on Saturday night.

This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams. The Riptide and FireWolves met in March, a 14-8 FireWolves win. The Riptide sit 4-2 in the all-time series between the two franchises, with the FireWolves never having won a game at the Nassau Coliseum.

The Riptide, who sit in 10th in the NLL standings, will need a win over the FireWolves plus all favored teams winning their respective remaining games around the league to clinch their first ever playoff berth. With just one game remaining, 256 different playoff possibilities still exist.

The Riptide are coming off a 16-10 road loss to the Vancouver Warriors, snapping the team's two game win streak. Jeff Teat scored three in that contest, now having tallied 54 goals on the year, just two away from his career high of 56. Teat sits atop the NLL's goal scoring race, four goals ahead of the Buffalo Bandit's Josh Byrne.

Jeff Teat has had his most success against the FireWolves (and Knighthawks), posting 45 points over six games played.

The FireWolves, once 6-0, have now dropped a season worst five straight games, putting up single digits in goals over their last three. The team is coming off an 11-7 road loss to Panther City last weekend.

Albany features some of the best young players in the league. Alex Simmons, a potential NLL rookie of the year, leads his team in scoring with 86 points. Simmons is followed closely by fellow rookie Tye Kurtz, who sits third in team scoring with 69 points.

Face-off is 7:30pm eastern. Watch live on MSG Networks, stream live on ESPN+ and TSN+.
