Riptide shut out again in Akron
Akron, Ohio - Despite an impressive performance by Jocelyn Forest, the Riptide were shut out for the second straight night by the Racers, 1-0. The Racers managed just four hits off Forest, but the key hit was a solo home run by Caitlin Benyi in the bottom of the first.
The Riptide were held to only to merely two hits on the night, a first inning double that was lost in the sun by Racer left fielder Amber Hall, and a sixth inning single by Lyndsey Angus. The Tide did reach base on a Racer error, merely one walk by Racer pitcher Brandee McArthur, and Lindy Winkler being hit by a pitch, but could not capitalize because of the Racer defensive recovery - doubling off runners for the last two outs of two innings.
The highlight of the evening for the Riptide was a spectacular flat out fifth inning diving catch by Winkler. Third baseman, Jackie Pasquerella was perfect on the evening, making five assists and one put out of hard hits by the Racer offense.
The Riptide returns home to Martin Field in Lowell, MA on Wednesday, August 16th for the final four game series of the season, against the Texas Thunder. The game begins at 7:05 and will be televised for Fox Sports Net New England.
