Rockford Thunder News Release

LEAGUE CITY, Texas - Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Christa Williams picked up her tenth win of the season on Saturday night, helping the Texas Thunder to a 2-0 win over Team Canada at Big League Dreams in League City.

In what may have been her final game in the circle for the new Manvel High School head softball coach, Williams delivered a solid performance by striking out nine Canadian hitters. The 2005 National Pro Fastpitch Triple Crown winner allowed just five hits in the game and lowered her season ERA to 1.78, which is now fifth best in the league. Her nine Ks on the night increased her league-best total to 153.

The game did not get off to a great start for the Thunder, as starting third baseman Clare Burnum took a groundball to the lip on the first play of the game sending her to the hospital where she received six stiches. She should be available for next weekend's series in New England against the Riptide.

Nina Lindenberg relieved Burnum at third base and she knocked in the second run of the game on a suicide squeeze bunt in the bottom of the fifth inning. The play knocked in Kristen Zaleski who tripled on the previous play.

The team's first run of the game came in the bottom of the second inning when Canada's catcher, Erin Cumpstone, threw wild of third base allowing Lindsay Gardner to come in to score.

Texas (18-26) will now head to New England for the final four games of the season next Wednesday through Sunday. The Thunder has now officially been eliminated of all playoff possibilities.
