Riptide Set To Open Second Season

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, May 18, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) will open its second season in the league with a game versus the Chicago Machine on Saturday, May 19 at 5 p.m. Pacific. The game is scheduled to take place at Chicago's Toyota Park.

RIPTIDE IN 2006: The Riptide finished their inaugural season in 2006 with a respectable record of 6-6 after winning four of their last five contests. The Riptide could have advanced into the playoffs with a win against the Denver Outlaws in their final game of the season last summer (August 12, 2006), but their campaign ended with a 13-9 setback at The Home Deport Center.

RIPTIDE VS. CHICAGO IN 2006: The Riptide completed a season sweep of the Chicago Machine last season, going 3-0. The first game between the two teams was played on June 17, 2006 at The Home Depot Center, where the Riptide earned their first victory in franchise history by a score of 17-6. The second game between the two teams occurred just one week later on June 24, 2006 at Chicago and resulted in another Riptide victory, this time by a score of 14-8. The third and final game between the two teams took place on July 29, 2006 as the Riptide claimed a 14-8 victory.

NEWS & NOTES: Defenseman Sean Donnelly (Navy '92), midfielder Matt Ogelsby (Duke '95) and attackman Michael Watson (Virginia '97) will all serve as captains for the Riptide during the 2007 MLL season...The Riptide have six graduates of the United States Naval Academy on their current roster, including Sean Donnelly ('92), Graham Gill ('05), Mitch Hendler ('05), Mickey Jarboe ('00), Chris Pieczonka ('05) and Matt Russell ('06)...For the first time in franchise history, the Riptide have a native Australian on their roster. Wes Green, who hails from Adelaide, Australia, will not only be the first Aussie to suit up for the Riptide, but also the first non-American player to play for the team...Riptide midfielder and face-off specialist Anthony Kelly was among the 23 players recently chosen to represent the United States in the 2007 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships, scheduled for May 14-20 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Kelly, a standout face-off midfielder in the MLL also faced off and played defense last winter in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) with the New York Titans.

The Riptide's home opener is set for Sunday, May 27 versus the New Jersey Pride at the Home Depot Center, with the home opener set to begin at 7 p.m.
