New England Riptide News Release

Lowell, Ma - June 25 - Jocelyn Forest took the circle tonight hoping to reverse the Riptide fortunes and she did just that as she threw six innings, allowing two runs and four hits in a 5-2 Riptide win. Eileen Canney pitched the seventh and picked up her first save of the year. Serena Settlemier started for the Thunder looking for her first win of the year, but instead picked up her third loss.

There was no scoring until the bottom of the second. In fact, the only hit to that point by either team was a single by Gina Carbonatto for the Riptide. The second hit of the night however was hit by Jess Merchant, a screaming line drive over the center field wall to give the Riptide a 1-0 lead. It was Merchant's team leading fourth of the year.

The Riptide took command, scoring three more in the fifth. TJ Eadus led off the inning with a single and Alex Sutton followed with a base on balls. Erica Beach pinch hit for Shanel Scott and came through with a double to the wall to score Eadus. Carbonatto drove in Sutton with a sacrifice fly. Lyndsey Angus followed with a single to put runners at first and third. A Carmen Paez single completed the scoring for the Riptide.

The Thunder got their runs in the sixth on hits by Audrey Rendon, Stephanie Best and Sandy Vojik. The Riptide did get one back in the sixth as Martin scored on a squeeze after leading off with a walk. Alex Sutton was hit by a pitch and Eadus had singled.

The two teams continue the series on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Martin Softball Field at 7:05. On Friday, any fan bringing a violent toy (to be disposed of) may trade it in for a Tangle toy. Saturday features a Riptide Lawn Party featuring the band In the House who will be performing from 5-7. Gates open at 4:15 on Saturday and special picnic food will be available.
