San Diego Riptide News Release
San Diego - After spending two weeks on the road, the âTide return for their home opener at the ipayOne Center on Saturday, April 23 at 7:00PM. While on the road, the team won their season opener against the Birmingham Steeldogs, 58-57, but lost the following week to their division rival, the Bakersfield Blitz, 30-57.
San Diego will face the Tulsa Talons (1-1) for this season's home opener. With Tulsa boasting an undefeated record against San Diego, the âTide come into the match-up thirsty for a win. San Diego is led by WR/LB Nian Taylor and FB/LB Jeff Macrea. Taylor surpassed the 200 reception and 3,000 career receiving yard mark last week against Bakersfield. Macrea has been steady on the ground and has chipped in with three rushing scores. On defense, OL/DL Asi Faoa is on pace to break the Riptide single season sack record. He currently has three on the season.
The Riptide made their 2005 San Diego debut last month in a preseason match-up with the All-Japan Samurai Warriors during the Japan Fiesta. San Diego dominated the contest, pulling away with a 67-32 victory. But now it's regular season play and both San Diego and Tulsa are playing to win. Fans in attendance will receive free magnet and pocket schedules. Doors open at 6:00PM and kickoff is scheduled for 7:00PM.
