New England Riptide News Release

Rockford, Ill- The New England Riptide evened their series with the Rockford Thunder last night by a score of 7-0. The loss was the first of the season for the Thunder who remain in first place at 7-1. Jocelyn Forest pitched a great game giving up only one hit, 2 walks and striking out six. The only Thunder player to hit was Amanda Williams who had a line drive single to right center in the third.

The Riptide scored their first run in the second when Jessica Merchant hit her first homerun of the year well over the center field fence. In the third Lyndsey Angus drove in runs number two and three when she singled to score Carri Martin and Shanel Scott. Scott got on by way of an infield hit after KJ Kelley reached on an error by third baseman Audrey Rendon. Kelley was out on a Martin fielder's choice setting the stage for Angus. Merchant narrowly missed another homerun that inning when she hit a ball to the center field wall.

Up 4-0 going into the seventh, the Riptide put it away scoring three runs on singles by pinch hitter, Garland Cooper, and by Jackie Pasquerella and a double by Carri Martin (2 for 4). Martin scored the seventh run when Gina Carbonatto singled up to middle. For the Thunder, Serena Settlemeir pitched the complete game loss and fell to 2-1. She gave up seven runs (five earned), on nine hits. In addition to pitching a great game, Forest had a thrill in the fourth inning when she was put into run for Tarrah Beyster who had singled, her first running assignment since 2004. Forest was hit to third and scored on a suicide squeeze on a ball bunted by KJ Kelley.
