July 9, 2008 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) - New England Riptide News Release

Akron, Ohio July 9th - The New England Riptide lost game one of the four game series with the Akron Racers tonight in Akron. Kristen Butler broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth with her fifth homerun of the year to give the Racers a 3-2 win. The Riptide had ample opportunities to win or tie, loading the bases with one out in the fifth and getting runners to third in each of the next two innings, but were unable to push across a run. Jocelyn Forest (3-6) took the circle for the New England Riptide and was the eventual loser giving up three runs in five innings. Eileen Canney came in to pitch the sixth in relief. Angel Shamblin (3-2) was the winning pitcher going 4.1 innings before being relieved by Radara McHugh and then Angela Tincher.

Akron took a 2-0 lead in the first. With one out, India Chiles beat out a ball to shortstop for a single and scored on a hard double by Kristen Butler. Butler later scored on a single by Susan Odgen.

The Riptide got one back in the third on a single by Shanel Scott followed by one from Carri Martin that sent Scott to third. Scott was later out at home on a double steal attempt but Martin came home on a Lyndsey Angus single. The Riptide tied it up at two in the fourth on a home run by Carmen Paez, her third of the year, second in two games but not quite enough as the Riptide fall to 10-15 on the season.
