Los Angeles Riptide News Release
CARSON, CALIFORNIA - Friday, June 1, 2007 - The Los Angeles Riptide of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), following a 15-9 victory against New Jersey on May 27 in their home opener at The Home Depot Center, hope to inflate their record to 3-0 when they travel to Harvard Stadium to take on the Boston Cannons on Saturday night (June 2) at 4:00 p.m. (PT).
RIPTIDE VS. BOSTON ALL-TIME: The Riptide (2-0) have faced the Cannons (1-2) one time in their MLL history, and were defeated in that game by the Cannons, 20-13, at The Home Depot Center on June 10, 2006. Saturday's game will mark the only scheduled meeting between the two teams in the 2007 regular season.
RIPTIDE'S LAST GAME RECAP (MAY 27 VS. NEW JERSEY): Goaltender Mickey Jarboe (Navy '00) led a strong defensive effort from the Los Angeles Riptide, who topped the New Jersey Pride 15-9 before a crowd of 5,764 at The Home Depot Center on May 27. Jarboe, the Bud Light MVP, allowed just nine goals and finished with 16 saves in the contest as he posted his second win in as many starts for the Riptide, who hold sole possession of first place in the Western Conference heading into the third week of play. Andrew "Buggs" Combs (Maryland '01) led the Riptide with four goals on Sunday night and the 29-year-old native of Baltimore leads the Riptide with nine total goals on the season. Combs and Spencer Ford (Towson '99) each also finished the game with five points as Combs collected one helper and Ford was credited with three goals and two assists.
BOSTON'S LAST GAME RECAP (MAY 25 AT LONG ISLAND): Midfielder Stephen Berger scored a game-high five goals, including four in the first half, to lead the Long Island Lizards to a season-opening 16-12 victory over the Boston Cannons on May 25. After the teams battled to a 9-9 tie in the first half, the Lizards held the Cannons to just three goals in the second half. The game was the Cannons' second-straight loss after earning a 17-13 victory over the Washington Bayhawks in their season opener.
