New York Lizards News Release

Uniondale, NY (May 31, 2007) - The Long Island Lizards of Major League Lacrosse selected four players in the 2007 collegiate draft and picked up two more players through draft day trades. The Lizards came into the day with the fourth overall selection but dealt it away last night in a trade involving Boston, Denver and the Lizards.

With the trade the Lizards gave Denver their number four and fourteen picks in exchange for Denver's number nine and ten picks. Long Island then traded the newly acquired number nine overall selection and their third round pick in the 2009 collegiate draft in exchange for Midfielder Chris Fiore with the Boston Cannons. After an All Star year in 2006 Chris had been inactive thus far in 2007 as he recovered from off-season shoulder surgery. He is now 100% recovered and will make the trip this weekend with the Lizards to San Francisco.

"Chris is an outstanding midfielder with the perfect mixture of strength, speed and athleticism," said Timothy Kelly, General Manager of the Lizards. "To pick up an All Star like Chris is a no-brainer, and the icing on the cake is the fact that he is a resident of Long Island and a graduate of Freeport High School right here in Nassau County."

Fiore was not the only player that the Lizards picked up with this trade. With the number ten overall selection they acquired from Denver, the Lizards selected Cornell Goaltender Matt McMonagle. McMonagle was a First Team All America selection this past season and led the Big Red to a birth in the national semi-finals.

"To get a goalie like Matt at the end of the first round is an absolute steal," added Head Coach of the Lizards Jim Mule'. "Strengthening our goalie situation was one of our goals heading into the draft and to grab a player of Matt's caliber this late is outstanding."

The draft marched on for the Lizards as they selected Honorable Mention All American defenseman Adam Crystal out of Drexel with the thirty first overall selection. Crystal is a strong defenseman who also hails from Long Island (Baldwin). With the thirty fourth overall pick Long Island added some speed to its attack by picking up Dartmouth standout Nick Bonacci. Bonnaci was a unanimous First Team All Ivy selection this past season as well as an Honorable Mention All American.

With their next selection in the draft the Lizards went for size as they took 6'5" attackman/midfielder Brian Hubschmann out of Notre Dame. Brian can play all over the field in Major League Lacrosse and the Lizards will use him just about everywhere they can.

The draft had now ended but the Lizards had a few more moves up their sleeves. In a trade that came after the end of the draft the Lizards gave midfielder Ryan Moran and their 2nd round pick in the 2008 collegiate draft to the Washington Bayhawks in exchange for Washington's twenty second overall pick attackman Frank Resetarits from Albany. Resetarits adds another 2007 First Team All American selection to the Lizards roster.

Finally, to cap off the evening the Lizards picked up Division II All American Rob Blount out of CW Post. Rob is an outstanding defenseman who will fit into the MLL very well. This past week Rob was honored as the only Division II player selected for the annual North vs. South Senior All Star Game.

"We could not have asked for a better night," concluded Team President Dave Kotowski. "The talent and depth we added to our roster is immeasurable, not to mention these are all great young men with fantastic character."

The Lizards are on the road the next two weekends with games at San Francisco and Washington but return home on June 16th to take on the defending champion Philadelphia Barrage at Mitchel Athletic Complex. The game begins at 1 PM, tickets are still available.
